Anthony “TJ” Powell

With a mortgage career that spans more than 25 years, TJ Powell is a leader and innovator within the industry. In 1998 he joined Centex Home Equity, now known as Mr. Cooper . In 2004, TJ headed up the Eastern Division for United Financial Mortgage Company AAFMAA Mortgage Services, the mortgage division of AAFMAA (American Armed Forces Mutual Aid Association), which is the longest-standing, non-profit financial solutions provider for military families and Veterans. AAFMAA is a 501c(23) founded in 1879.

AAFMAA Mortgage Services is a subsidiary of AAFMAA, with 120 employees across 29 states. TJ was responsible for the creation of the mortgage division and expanding the company’s commercial lending efforts and special projects including Military Urban Development (MUD), strategic alliances, investor relations, marketing events and builder/realtor seminars.

A Veteran of the United States Navy, where he was a Hospital Corpsman and Field Medic with a specialty in Pediatrics, TJ has managed multiple branches for national mortgage lenders. He is a Certified Veteran Loan Specialist and Certified Real Estate Appraiser (NC) as well as a member of NAMB (National Association of Mortgage Brokers).

“I personally enjoy working day-to-day with clients. Veterans, active duty, and reservists are a specialty,” he says. “I enjoy the challenge of working on complex loans and finding solutions that help our customers achieve their goals. My biggest passion within the mortgage field is building companies and watching the staff expand their knowledge and advance within the field.”

TJ leads an active life outside the office, enjoying scuba diving, wrestling and golf. He is involved in many outside organizations including the Autism Society, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Wounded Warrior Foundation, Supporter of Gary Sinise Foundation, MOAA Supporter, Navy SEAL Foundation and Force Reconnaissance Foundation.
